WebAbsences zijn heel korte gegeneraliseerde aanvallen die enkele seconden duren. Ze kunnen voorkomen bij kinderen vanaf het vierde leeftijdsjaar. Kenmerkend is een plotselinge verandering van bewustzijn, waardoor je afwezig bent, niet meer reageert en niet verder gaat met waar je mee bezig was. WebAbsence is de naam van een aanval waarbij kinderen tijdelijk buiten bewustzijn zijn, staren en geen contact maken. De toevoeging op de kinderleeftijd geeft aan dat de meeste kinderen de lager schoolleeftijd hebben wanneer zij last krijgen van deze vorm van epilepsie. Ook wordt de term kinderabsence epilepsie wel gebruikt.
