Check the antenna for resonant frequeney with the whip fully extended and then " adjust the whip for the desired frequency. WebbVertical antennas are radiate in all directions around the antenna, unlike dipoles which are a bit directional. Also, vertical whip antennas radiate towards the horizon at a low angle, helping to make those far off contacts. They are less efficient than a dipole, and the do require a very good ground connection.
Webb5 dec. 2024 · Put several snap-on RF chokes on the coax cable or a 1:1 current balun, at the antenna end. Your coax's shield has become a part of the antenna thus throwing off the SWR readings. Changing coax length may help too. Cut it to a non resonant length. Or build an "ugly balun" at the antenna end of the coax.
